Psychoneuroendocrinology of women’s mental health
The life of women is characterized by substantial alterations of circulating gonadal hormonal levels, which associate with incidence of psychiatric symptoms. Prospective experimental studies of mood disorders associated with reproductive endocrinology are performed in collaboration with prof. Sundström-Poromaa I., Uppsala University. Behavioural and pharmacological correlates of brain functioning are examined using neuroimaging techniques, in collaboration with prof. Lanzenberger R., Medical University of Vienna. This research aims to advance our knowledge on women psychoneuroendocrinology, and promote the development of sex-specific treatments.
